When I went to visit a Church in Jordan.

During the summer of 2015, I went to Amman Jordan for vacation and to visit my family. One day I told my cousin, Maria, that I wanted to go to church. She took me to two churches in the area one was Orthodox and the other one was Catholic. What I found shocked me: both churches were filled with christian refuges from Syria and Iraq. Every Church I went to in Amman was filled with Christian refuges who were residing their temporarily. I asked my cousin Maria and my aunt Hala why they were staying in these churches? They both told me that they have no where else to go. What was even more shocking that they tend to be left behind by international organization and the world because they do not reside in refugee camps due to religious difference and discrimination. Most of the refugees that I meet were Assyrian; therefore, they spoke Aramaic which was the language that Jesus in the bible was said to have spoken. Many of the local Christians take small steps to help these refuges but their not enough. Jordan and its citizens are poor and do not make enough money to fully support these refuges but this does not mean they turn their back on these refuges.

I was told from the local priest that they have fled from Isis and they have no where to stay but in the house of god. The refuges feel safe residing in these church because they feel as if they have taken refuge in god's house. Many of the refuges are young children who have not been able to attend school since the conflict started.

This day made me feel so blessed to live in the United States where I do not have to flee for my religion or ethnicity but it made me feel that I have to report and help these refuges in what ever way I can. These are Iraqi christian in Amman, Jordan in the image below:
